So this evening I''m going to take a Civil Service test for another city just in case something falls through with my new job at the state. I am not looking forward to it at all. You know why? It's a general knowledge test. You know what's included in general knowledge? Math. Math, people. I'm lucky I can get 2+2 =4. Some days it might be 5. It happens. Math leads to crying in my little world. Hopefully, I'll be able to keep the sobbing down to a dull roar during the test. It might disturb the other test takers. They'll have the excuse "that sobbing girl was so distracting I have to retake the test."
Let's talk about stuff that makes me smile shall we? I'll tell you a secret. It's cards ;)
Today I'm playing along with another new to me challenge. It's Curtain Call. They have been up and running for quite awhile I just never made it over to play along. I'm so glad I did because I love the inspiration photo tons!!
I'm also playing along with the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge to create a tag.
**Warning** this card is a little busier than I usually do but I feel like it's alright. Just this one time.
Okay. I realize in the scheme of shabby chic to CAS this is definitely more CAS. It's just not as CAS as usual.
I started by creating my tag. I know I should break down and get a tag die but I just want too many stamps dang it. I love the rounded edges of the dies that are out there so I usually just use whatever to get my edge and then trim it out by hand. This one was created with the edge of a toilet paper roll. I'm not kidding. I was at work and there wasn't much round hanging out to trace so I used a new toilet paper roll. Fortunately, the toilet paper we have at work is the equivalent of notebook paper so I didn't have soft fluffy toilet paper getting in my way. I knew that cheap stuff was good for something.
Once I had my water color paper tag I stamped the roses from Hero Arts Pattern Hearts and Flowers using distress markers. I didn't clean the stamp in between inkings because I wanted the colors to blend together. After the whole tag was colored I went in with my paintbrush and pulled the colors out. Once it was dry I added a simple black frame around it. Yes, I used the toilet paper roll again. Don't judge me.
I used a sentiment from Hero Arts set Night and Day Flowers. The wood veneer hearts were covered and stickles before being adhered. I kind of wanted to make these black but one of the guys I worked with looked at me like I just said "I think I'll shave my head today right after I dye my eyebrows green." instead of "Hey maybe I'll make these hearts black." Whatever. Like he knows cards. Yes, I realize I took his advice but only because I wanted to and not because he looked at me like a crazy person.
The background was created by using the Background Wall chipboard from Wycinanka. It's me being inspired by the well in the photo. Instead of using the whole piece I decided to use it as a stencil with embossing paste. I did it twice and the chipboard survived both applications. Pretty cool eh? You'll see it on another card soon. My original intention was to watercolor over the embossing paste like Jennifer McGuire did here. It came out pretty cool but it was way too much as a background for this tag. Again maybe you'll see it on another card.
Alright that's it.
Thanks for stopping by!
It really means so much when you stop by to visit little ole' me !!
