Happy Birthday Joey!! and Caardvarks challenge

I'm back again with a scene tutorial as promised. Last night I had a terrible headache so I went to bed super early. Result: Woke up super early :( However I did get a jump start on some cards I needed to make including this one for my nephew Joey's 1st Birthday. His theme is Cowboys so when I found these stamps at The Cat's Pajamas I just HAD to have them.

if you have not had the opportunity to use stamps from here let me tell you they are awesome, very high quality. AND they are made in the USA that's even more awesome ;) Here is my card I am entering it into Caardvarks Penny Black Inside and Out Challenge

inside

So moving on to the tutorial First I stamped all the images onto my masking paper.
then I cut them all out. When your cutting don't worry about cutting around the black areas. Black is going to cover whatever color you are using anyway. Like the cowboys gloves and shoes, they are detailed and tiny. It's a pain to cut around something that small so I don't. It's an unnecessary frustration ;) The canoe Indian I had used on a previous card and saved.

next rip a post it note or scrap card stock into two pieces for your water line. Some are more particular about the shape then others. I just rip it and however it comes out it comes out. You will need both pieces.
Now we are ready to start stamping. I used a plain piece of white card stock cut to 4 x 5 1/4. I lined up where I wanted my canoe by laying the waterline piece next to my card stock. I stamped with Ranger Archival jet black.

cover him with his mask.

Since I just ripped card stock for my waterline I used my Zig two way glue pen to make the edge sticky. I wait for it to dry clear and then I walk my fingers up and down the sticky part to pull off some of the adhesive. Make sure you wait for it to dry. Since this glue has the capacity to be permanent if you stick it to soon you WILL NOT be able to get it off without ruing your project.I glued down the bottom piece to place my cowboy.
I stamped all my pieces and covered them up with masks. When you are doing a scene make sure you stamp the image you want to be in the forefront first. The blue masks you see are actually the backing to the original masks. This is a little trick I use in order to save time. I don't have to use more masking paper and I don't have to cut a separate image. I just use the Zig two glue on the backs and stick em' down. The buildings didn't stretch across the whole horizon so I just stamped the bank and the jail again to fill it out.
Last minute I decided I wanted a rising sun in the background just to add a little interested. I punched a circle from card stock put some two way glue on it and stuck it down.

I used a large post it note as a mask for my horizon line.

I rubbed on some Tumbled Glass distress ink with my foam ink applicator, starting on the edges working my way in.

did the same thing with broken china distress ink not covering the tumbled glass entirely.

remove the post it note and the circle. Line the post note up with your horizon line this time masking the sky. Leave your waterline mask in place.
I used brushed corduroy for my desert. I also did some shading with vintage photo. Once you like the look of your desert you can remove the post it note.
Finally :) you can remove the mask for your waterline.
Only now you put on the other ripped piece we saved to mask the desert and sky. I used my Zig two way again to temporarily adhere it.
I applied faded jeans to the whole area and chipped sapphire for shading.

When you remove the mask you'll notice that your waterline has white areas where the mask didn't line up perfectly. Not to worry we'll fix it.
Remove all your masks to see your pretty white images. Just waiting to be colored ;)
I used my H20 pen and faded jeans to color in the white areas. My pen was a little two wet so it didn't blend as well as I would have liked. This technique works best with a drier brush. I also used my H20 pen, no ink, and drew in some random wavy lines for the water

I colored the Cacti with peeled paint and forest moss distress ink.
I colored in the rocks with walnut stain and vintage photo. I also used vintage photo on the canoe.
I colored in his outfit with antique linen
For the canoe details and his headband I used rusty hinge.
I won't bore you with all the details I'll just show the close up and the color list for the rest. For the cowboy I used barn door, antique linen, and walnut stain.
On the half portion of the bank I used tea dye, fired brick, antique linen, and walnut stain. For the jail I used black soot, brushed corduroy, and vintage photo. The buzzard is antique linen and wild honey.
The saloon was colored with tea dye, walnut stain, and barn door.
I used a lot of colors on the bank. I wanted the brick to look genuine. I used brushed corduroy, antique linen, rusty hinge, and fired brick.
The half (not even) portion of the jail I used walnut stain. Now that everything is colored I went back to work on the water. I used a dark gold yellow marker and outlined the shore. Then I used a navy marker to outline the water's edge, and under the canoe. I also made random lines in the water with the marker and a white gel pen.

I used my h20 pen and vintage photo to draw in some shadows for the cacti, cowboy, and buildings.
I added Glossy accents to the water's edge, just under the canoe, and all the building's windows.
For the inside of the card I did the same technique. I stamped the cacti, masked them, applied brushed corduroy, removed the masks, and colored them in with crushed olive, peeled paint, and forest moss. The rock was colored with vintage photo and walnut stain. The sentiment (so super cute) is from the stamp set It's a western thing. I used black for my card base.

Here is the completed card again. I hope it inspires you to try your hand at building a scene ;)

Thanks for coming over to visit, Have a wonderful night!!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The wonderful women over at Stampin' Sister's in Christ are having a challenge for Breast Cancer Awareness.

I decided to use the butterfly because butterflies represent new life. I used the large butterfly for Hero Arts cling set. I cut 3 panels from nestabilities labels one. I stamped the left wing on one, the right wing on one, and the center on the last. I colored them in using my Whispers Strokes markers then added Stickles in Stardust. I stamped the sentiment (also Hero Arts) right onto my ribbon and backed it with a piece of white. I adhered the Butterfly panels with foam.

Thanks for stopping by!

God Bless all those out there who have or know someone with this disease. My prayers are with you!

Halloween Treats

Last night I found the perfect challenge at Cupcake Craft Challenge and here I am lol. I made these bags for my niece Makayla and my nephew Joey. They are 1yo and 9 months old so I couldn't by them traditional Halloween goodies. Instead they got some Gerber Graduates and super cute Halloween T-shirts.
The images are digi stamps from Digital Delights by Louby Loo. They are so cute and right now they are 50% off!! Everything was colored with distress inks The scallops I cut using the Tim Holtz die. I then inked them up with more distress ink. I used spiced marmalade in the 1 inch strips and stamped the BOO! in the same color. I stamped Happy Halloween over it on two panels. The BOO! and Happy Halloween stamp are from Hero Arts set Happy Halloween. I adhered everything onto the Kraft bag. Here are some close ups

Wee Memories and Caring Hearts Card Drive.

I won this stamp along with a whole bunch of other stuff 8) from I {Heart} Papers and I have to tell you that Kate is wonderful. I bought a bunch of goodies (yay) from them and then won on her birthday bash. The previous stamp (xmas puppies) was a buy from here. This was my first time buying from them and not only is she sweet but helpful and prompt too. If you haven't had the chance to check them out I hope you do so soon.  For those of you wondering if this is genuine, I have 3 followers no one would pay me for my opinion 8) I just had a great experience with them and thought I would spread the word.

Onto the next card
This stamp set is from Chicken Girl Designs. It's not one I would normally buy but I'm so glad I won it because now I know how great they stamp. Anywho this one included ALOT of masking. I stamped the skaters and masked them. I stamped the ice ponds and masked them. I stamped the trees and masked them. Then I used a large post it note to mask the grass. I colored the sky with tumbled glass and broken china. I moved the post it to mask the sky and colored the grass using crushed olive, peeled paint, and forest moss. I only used the forest moss on the very edges on the ponds. I removed the masks and colored the images in with distress ink and my H20 pen. I added stardust stickles to the back edge of the ponds and yellow to the stars. Last I mounted on black cardstock.

I'm entering this one into Wee Memories Cute Holiday and mailing it in to Caring Hearts Card Drive. If you have the chance to send in some cards I know they will be appreciated. It's such a wonderful idea.

I seem to get the most comments on my scene cards so I will try to get a tutorial together on how I do it.

Thanks for coming to visit. Have a Blessed Day!

Christmas Puppies!

Hello and Happy Firday!! The card I am sharing with you today has a new image for Stampavie Laurence Collection. Its called Xmas Puppies and it is the cutest stamp!

Okay so quick run down: I used nestabilities labels eight to cut the main panel. I then stamped the xmas puppies on it. I colored them with distress inks. I masked off the top portion with a post it and added brushed corduroy and walnut stain to the bottom. I also stamped Her Arts friend definition in walnut stain. I put on my ribbon and tied my bow. Then I cut another panel 4 x 5 1/4, I inked it up with peeled paint and added forest moss to the very edges. I stamped Hero Arts Flourish background in peeled paint. I hand sewed the border using plain white thread. I used plain cardstock colored with walnut stain for my base and adhered my green panel to it. Lastly I adhered my puppies panel with foam.

I am entering this card into the following challenges if you haven't heard of them stop over and check em out. It's good to find new ways to challenge yourself. Also I will be mailing this card in to Caring Hearts Card Drive. If you have the chance to send in some cards I know they will be appreciated. It's such a wonderful idea.

Hero Arts Holiday Challenge

These two cards are for Hero Arts Holiday challenge.

I work nights so when I'm driving home in the morning the sun is just coming up. I LOVE how it highlights the tops of the trees. My first card was inspired by it
I first stamped the tree image and masked it off. Then I masked off the triangle shape for the "sunlight." I swirled on broken china distress ink from the top left and the bottom where the tops of the trees would go. I removed the triangle mask and swirled on tumble glass where it was. I used white ink to sponge in the cloud. I used the negative of the stamp image for the "forest." The closet layer is the first and second layer sponged with peeled paint. The furthest layer of  trees is just the top of the tree sponged in with forest moss. I used tumbled glass and a ripped piece of paper to sponge in the shadows of snow. I finally unmasked my tree and colored it in using crushed olive, peeled paint, and forest moss. I added some stardust stickles to the garland and my gems/pearls to the tree. Finally I outlined the snow banks with glossy accents.

A closeup of the tree stickles and gems

onto my second card
First i stamped my tree in Ranger jet black archival. Then I stamped the image on a piece of plastic in faded jeans and "stamped" it to create the reverse image. I used a ripped piece of paper to create the bank by sponging faded jeans on top of it. I used stormy sky to color in the ice. For the sky I used antique linen and brushed corduroy for the outer edges. I swirled on a bit more stormy sky to blend the sky and bank. Last I added burgandy stickles to the tree and outlined the bank with a white gel pen and glossy accents.

Hopefully this inspires you to play with your inks. Sometimes you don't need alot of bulk to have great dimension!

OTWC Challenge

Here is my second entry for OTWC color challenge.  Here is the color palette
Now my card has the colors a bit darker and unfortunately they didn't photograph well but I swear they are all there!!

I masked off the sun with a circle and the horizon line with a large post it note. I began inking around the sun with rusty hinge, followed by spiced marmalade, and finishing with worn lipstick. I then removed the masks and sponged a little worn lipstick into the sun. I then stamped a branch border stamp with crushed olive, peeled paint, and forest moss. I inked up to the horizon line with crushed olive. I inked about halfway up with peeled paint, and used forest moss just on the edges. I also added a little forest moss around the sides and edges. I stamped the Poppy with black ink and colored the blooms with a deep purple marker from marvy. I colored the stems with a dark green from sugarloaf whisper strokes. All done! So my pink and orange are in the sky, green in the field, purple on the poppies ;)

Thanks for visiting!! Have a Blessed and Happy Day!
